A healthcare professional performing a knee examination on a patient.

Osteopathy was founded in 1874 by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, a physician who sought a more holistic and effective approach to healthcare.

Believing that the body has a natural ability to heal itself, he developed a system of medicine that emphasized the connection between structure and function, the musculoskeletal system’s role in health, and the use of hands-on treatment to restore balance.

OMM involves use of the physician’s hands to gently stretch, mobilize, and release tension in the body’s muscles, joints, fascia, and organs.

Techniques may include soft tissue work, joint articulation, myofascial release, cranial techniques, and gentle adjustments to improve alignment, circulation, and nervous system function.

  • Loose fitting clothing is best; yoga pants, sweats, or athletic clothing.

    • New or acute conditions can sometimes be treated in a single visit.

    • Initially I’d like to see you more frequently, every 3 or so weeks.

    • For more chronic or long-standing conditions, I usually treat someone 2-3 times to assess if OMM is beneficial.

    • Chronic or complicated conditions will often be seen every 4-6 weeks for maintenance if condition does not resolve and OMM is helping.

You will be assessed at every visit to be sure OMM is still the best thing for you.

If you graduate, patients can always come back on an as needed basis without being considered a new patient.

  • No! You do not need to be a member and do not need a referral.

  • You will pay the visit fee upfront, and I will give you a receipt (called a superbill). Many patients send this to their insurance company and sometimes receive reimbursement through their out-of-network coverage.

    Typical Codes:

    99213, 99214, 99204

    98926, 98927, 98928

  • OMM should not be painful. Sometimes people will be sore the following days like the had a work out. It’s important to drink a lot of water after manipulation to help with this.

  • OMM and PT work beautifully together. OMM gently restores movement and alignment, while physical therapy builds strength and stability. When combined, they help reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long-term healing.
